observation & light

A series of plein air works, observing nature and exploring light

about the show

Lucy's latest exhibition showcases her passion for observing nature and exploring light. Painted during the Winter months, this new series is divided into three parts. Each part reflecting a different aspect of observation and light, her latest body of work comprises smaller plein air works, landscapes, sunsets, and flowers. The Landscapes were all painted en plein air in either oil or watercolour, capturing light and space. The Sunsets are a small exploration of the subtle interplay of light and dark just before and after sunset. The Flowers observe color and light, with Lucy aiming to capture the movement in a still life.

Lucy works directly within the landscape, taking her easel, sketchbook, and paintbox with her to capture the energy of land, sea, and sky. Her paintings reflect the mood of the place, time, and space, inviting viewers to connect with nature themselves. Despite the Winter season, Lucy's latest works feature a rich and varied color palette, with the low sun adding drama to the landscapes. Her approach to observation and interpretation is rooted in reality, making her paintings truly unique.

Observation is a deeply personal exploration, and Lucy's work aims to capture the essence of each subject. Her paintings allow viewers to project their own interpretations, reflecting the constant pull between what we sense and what we know. Lucy's exhibition is a must-see for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and the subtleties of light.
